Reduced Street Cleaning in Kenley

Posted on November 28, 2015 by admin

In response to a question raised by Kendra, Councillor Steve Hollands responded…

We understand from our colleague Cllr Phil Thomas that this is the case

“We were told by Cllr Stuart Collins that the new village system would mean  improved cleaning for the Borough ? Labour also promised to be open & transparent. We found out today that Labour had made the following changes without telling anyone………

1. 2.5 crews had been taken off the rubbish collection / recycling meaning the Veolia staff would have to work longer hours to complete the work. eg my recycling is normally picked up 9.15am on a Monday. Today they were there at 3pm.

2. £554, 000 has been taken out of the Veolia contract ……..mostly reducing the street cleaning.

3. No roads have had extra cleaning

4. All roads cleaned monthly are now cleaned every 6 weeks. Instead of being cleaned  12 times a year they will now be cleaned 8 times. I reckon that  between 80%- 90% of the roads have now had their cleaning reduced. The monthly roads are the side roads.

Phil Thomas”
