There’s no denying, the hanging baskets on the parade last year were a splash of much needed colour. They brought brightness to an otherwise ordinary row of shops.
Kenley is a leafy and lovely place, but even so, there are blemishes, or at least places that could be improved. It could be they need a good sweep, or some clutter or rubbish clearing, or maybe need brightening-up with some colourful flowers.
KENDRA, together with our Councillors, has started a conversation with Croydon Council, to see how can work together to improve and Prettify Kenley.
At an initial meeting with the Director of Streets and Environment, Charlie Baker, we agreed on several areas that needed improvement, and the Council has promised to take action.
To start, Kenley Parade (Norfolk Terrace), will be treated to a deep clean, to remove the dirt and grease that has accumulated since the new paving was laid. The roadside gutters will be swept and the perpetual fly-tipping (by the postbox) put under intense investigation.
We have asked if the Council could supply some flower troughs too. KENDRA will for its part, plant up the troughs and take care of them, including watering. We will need hands to help with this.
Getting the shops to co-operate will be a must. They will surely benefit from a cleaner, better cared-for parade. Perhaps, this time, we can persuade them to ‘chip-in’ toward the cost of hanging baskets next year? We are investigating the possibility of a grant to offset some of the cost too.
