New Street Lighting – Too Bright?

Posted on September 18, 2015September 20, 2015 by admin

Kenley is finally receiving new street lights. This is part of a Croydon borough wide project to replace the majority of the street lighting in Croydon. You may notice yellow circles on the pavements, which is the location of the new street lights. The old street lights will be removed once the new ones have been installed.

You can see when your road will receive the new lighting in the  street lighting schedule (pdf) and further details can be found on Croydon Council’s website https://www.croydon.gov.uk/transportandstreets/rhps/street-lighting/sl-introduction

If you are worried about light shining into your windows, Skanska can offer a light shield (shade). In response to a request for information sent by Kendra, Skanska replied:

“You are correct in the fact that Skanska are able to install front or rear shield to nearly all types of lanterns that ae being installed. However these are not installed at the time of installation but are fitted upon requests from any residents that have any obtrusive lighting issues. If any residents wish for a shield to be fitted on a column outside or opposite their properties then they are advised to contact Skanska on 0800 028 5986 to put in a request. Alternatively they can e mail Skanska’s call centre requesting a shield at clstreetlighting@skanska.co.uk.

With regards to the dimming options the new street lights do have the capability to be dimmed, however the authority are still in the process of developing a dimming policy of which any issues would be dealt with on an individual basis. The authority would not randomly start dimming lights if the correct lighting levels are achieved in the road. As mentioned if any queries come into Skanska or our client monitoring team we can deal with each individual issue.
The authority are reviewing the possibility of dimming the lights in the borough of which this may come into effect in the near future.”
