Your Support

KENDRA is leading something rare: a residents’ association stepping up to save, restore, and reinvent an historic building for the whole community. This is our chance to create a community asset for future generations.

The Kenley Hotel has been officially listed as an Asset of Community Value. It means the building is now protected, and the community has a real chance to bring it back to life. We are moving into the next phase: formal community ownership.

A Community Benefit Society (CBS)

This month we will submit our CBS application to the Plunkett Foundation, which supports community owned pubs across the country. A CBS is a democratic, asset-locked organisation, that can buy the building, raise community shares, receive grants, and run the venue for local people.

This is a huge step — and it puts The Kenley Hotel in the same league as some of the most successful community run pubs in the country.

We’re working with Croydon Council to unlock funding for Kenley

We’re asking Croydon to back:

  • A community led purchase of the building
  • A longterm community asset transfer to the CBS
  • A 5year repayment model funded by trading surplus and community shares
  • Access to catalytic funding to make the building safe, accessible, and ready to open

And this isn’t just about the pub.

Kenley has a 15% neighbourhood portion of CIL funding that can support:

  • High street improvements
  • Better public spaces
  • Youth and family facilities
  • Heritage and culture
  • Climatepositive projects

The Kenley Hotel can act as the anchor project that unlocks wider investment for the whole area.

We’re preparing a community share offer

Once the Council signals support, residents will be able to buy community shares and invest directly in the future of The Kenley Hotel.

Our survey shows:

  • 74% of residents would consider buying shares
  • Strong support from Kenley, Purley, and Caterham

This will help fund refurbishment and long term improvements.

We’re building a climate positive community hub

The vision is simple: A familyfriendly, communityowned venue powered by renewable energy, offering:

  • A pub and café
  • Affordable coworking
  • Youth clubs and school partnerships
  • Live music, arts, and heritage events
  • A garden bar and outdoor space

A place that brings people together — and puts Kenley on the map for all the right reasons.

We want you with us
