Walks

If you enjoy walking in the countryside then you’re in the right place.

Kenley Common

There’s a lot more to Kenley Common than its 139 acres of open space. It’s home to some rare butterflies and plants, and is a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation for its grassland habitats. Its chalk, neutral and acid grasslands, ancient woodland and scrub, provide a fantastic home for wildlife and a quiet place for people to enjoy. The common land flanks Kenley’s historic Battle of Britain airfield, which has won a major grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and is undergoing extensive restoration.

More information at City of London’s Website Kenley Common

Other Commons in the area on the City of London website; Riddlesdown, Coulsdon Common, Farthing Downs and Happy Valley SSSI.

Croydon council and the City of London give conducted walks/tours of common lands and other local places of interest, throughout the year. More information at www.cityoflondon.gov.uk  and  www.croydon.gov.uk
