More than 90 residents attended the #SaveTheKenley Campaign Quiz Night on Friday 18th September, held at the Smokin’ Grill on Kenley parade. The event raised over £1000, thanks to the support of residents and the generosity of local businesses who supplied prizes for the raffle.
Guests heard about the campaign’s ongoing efforts to secure the future of The Kenley Hotel and the importance of protecting spaces that bring people together. The event highlighted the significant public support behind the campaign, with residents expressing concerns about the future of the pub and the potential loss of an important community venue.
Mark J Dodds Director of CAMRA and now Publican expert for the campaign committee said:
“The incredible turnout and support shown at this community event demonstrates just how important The Kenley (Hotel) is to local people. This campaign has never just been about a building; it’s about protecting a place where friendships are formed, memories are made and community spirit thrives.”
In April 2025, he was elected to CAMRA’s National Executive, where he brings a publican’s perspective to revitalising the organization and strengthening the role of pubs as anchors of community life.
The campaign team extended its thanks to Smokin Grill for hosting the event and to the 15 local businesses sponsoring listed on the poster), prize donors, volunteers and attendees whose generosity helped make the evening a success.

One of the highlights of the evening was a team challenge which saw Hotel Kenleyfornias crowned champions, much to the delight of supporters.
Organisers say the event represents another positive step in raising awareness of the campaign and strengthening community engagement around the future of The Kenley.
Supporters are encouraged to follow the campaign on social media and get involved in future events, including a community pub crawl planned for later this year.
