Several KENDRA members have received parking fines at the new Aldi supermarket in Caterham, near Wapses Lodge roundabout. Shoppers are required to enter their car registration number on the screen near the checkout. Failure to do so will result in a £60 fine, regardless of how long they have been in the store.
One member who received a fine took it up with staff, showing them a receipt for the day and time of the ‘offence’. Despite reassurances from a staff member that they would deal with it, a fine reminder was received shortly afterwards. The member then contacted Aldi Head Office telling them they didn’t know that they had to register their vehicle at the store They were told the the fine would be cancelled.
Another member who had received a fine said they were unaware of the system having never shopped at an Aldi before. They paid the fine but vowed never to return to the supermarket.

How do I appeal a parking charge?
If we’ve charged you by mistake (sorry!) your receipt will put things right. Send your receipt and a copy of your parking charge to our Customer Service team here to show you were shopping with us while you were parked. Or visit the appeal page on parkingeye.co.uk.
A 90 minute free parking stay is allowed provided shoppers enter their registration. It’s easy to forget to register, especially when the store is busy. Our advice is to register as soon as you arrive at the store.
