DEMOC back on track?

Posted on February 8, 2021February 12, 2021 by pk

from KENDRA Weekly update 6th February 2021

The government has issued a letter to Croydon Council making it clear that it should validate the DEMOC petition in February, and the law requires it to then complete the referendum within a few months. They go further and suggest that combining the referendum with the London Mayoral Election (Due May 2021) would be reduce costs.

Things are progressing with speed now – Croydon Council has called an extraordinary meeting for February 8th – they are proposing a DEMOC referendum in Oct 2021. This is a major win for the DEMOC campaign – the council would never have agreed this without the petition; and the petition would never have happened without  the RAs of Croydon coming together with our members.

It also means that the DEMOC campaign needs to raise new funds and request volunteers to distribute leaflets so that we can share the benefits of a DEMOC to the central and Northern part of the Borough.
