Kenley Community Plan – Transport Assessment

Posted on March 28, 2020March 28, 2020 by pk

Croydon Council has commissioned a detailed survey of the road and transport issues within Kenley. The report is accessible on the council website

This is linked to the Kenley Good Growth Bid. The research and analysis has been completed by an external consultancy. There was a meeting last year where some of the early ideas that are within this report were presented to WURA and Kendra. We provided some feedback.

The report has now been presented as the “final document” and we have not been permitted to comment again. If you have views on this report then please let us know. The council could and should be doing much more to engage with the residents and not just issue these reports.

Nothing in the report is written in stone. Budgets need to be obtained and consultation needs to occur for the major items.

Some of the suggestions:

  • The whole lower part of Hayes Lane is proposed to be made one-way (down) quiet zone with a designated pedestrian walk area.
  • The sweeping bend at the junction between Hayes Lane and Kenley Lane will be tightened-up to force traffic turning left into Kenley Lane to slow down,  – it also improves visibility lines for pedestrians .
  • The sweeping bend at the junction between Hayes Lane and Kenley Lane will be tightened-up to force traffic turning left into Kenley Lane to slow down,  – it also improves visibility lines for pedestrians .
  • Widening of the pavement over the humpback bridge
  • Installation of a pedestrian crossing at the bottom of Hayes Lane
  • There are many other proposals.

Generally the needs of pedestrians and cyclists are given a much greater weighting in deciding on road changes and design.
