After more than a decade of waiting, a bus to service the folks of ‘upper’ Kenley is due to arrive on Saturday 29th March. Residents may have seen the faun coloured trial-bus doing the circuit.
The Route (towards Caterham)
The 434 has been re-routed to turn off Godstone Road at the Shell Garage, up Foxley Hill Road, then Higher Drive, Cullesden Road and Firs Road, where it will turn into Wattenden Road. Having gone the length of Wattenden Road it will turn left onto Hayes Lane and continue downhill onto Park Road. At the bottom it will re-join Hayes Lane at the sharp bend and over the hump bridge and then turn right onto the A22 Godstone Road.
As far as we know it will pick up the existing 434 route and continue onto Caterham Valley along the Godstone Road. This has now been confirmed.
It is assumed the route back from Caterham, via Kenley to Coulsdon will be a reverse journey.
The Timetable
The first summary route is from Coulsdon (Rickman Hill) to Caterham Valley about 25 and 55 past the hour. The second from Caterham Valley to Coulsdon (Rickman Hill) about 20 and 50 past the hour. At what time they will arrive in Kenley to be established.
The service is expected to start at around 6.50am and finish at 8pm.
As there are no Bus Stops on Wattendon Road (or other roads it was assumed – watch this space), it has to be Hail and Ride, they can’t be more specific on the timings. This is partly due to the impracticality of installing bus stops on the route, no to mention the cost and upheaval involved.
