New flight path for Biggin Hill

Posted on January 12, 2016 by admin

Biggin Hill Airport propose to install a new Instrument Approach Procedure (IAP) for aircraft approaching the airport to land from the south-west. The following images give an outline of the new landing flight path (in black dotted) compared to the existing (red). It is anticipated that the new flight path will be used for approximately one third of landings, when the wind direction is from the North.

The main aims of this proposals are to:

  • Reduce the number of people & properties overflown by aircraft using Biggin Hill Airport using the current navigation facilities;
  • Improve the safety of the airport’s operation in adverse weather conditions; and
  • Reduce the environmental impact of the Airport’s current operations by raising the height and improving the track keeping of aircraft when using the airport’s runway from the south west.

Biggin Hill Airport are comitted to engage in a widespread consultation with neighbours, MPs, local government, local interest and airport user groups and want to hear from members of the public.

The consultation – which will run until February 2016 – is being conducted in accordance with the procedures laid down by The UK Cabinet Office and the UK Civil Aviation Authority.

Full details, and a link to the consultation can be found on the Biggin Hill website through the following link: Biggin Hill New Flight Path
