Kenley ‘on-the-hill’ Gets A Bus

Posted on February 14, 2024February 14, 2024 by pk

After 14 years of campaigning by KENDRA and local Councillors, the folks who live at the top the Ward are finally getting a bus. Transport for London has announced that there will be a new bus route from Purley to Caterham, or rather a rerouting of the 434, commencing on Saturday 2nd March.

The new route, climbs up Foxley Lane, Higher Drive, Cullesden Road and Firs Road, and will loop Wattendon Road. It then heads down Hayes Lane and Park Road to Kenley Station, where it will turn right onto the A22 Gostone Road at the Co-Op and continue to Caterham.

Despite the good news, some residents are disappointed the route will not follow Hayes Lane across the Airfield and on to Caterham-on-the-Hill and Caterham Valley, bringing the outer reaches of Kenley within its service.

A timetable has yet to be finalised but it is expected there will be a half-hourly service in each direction. For many residents it will be a vital link to both Purley and Caterham without having to climb the steep hill from Kenley station.

KENDRA members are urged to get on board.
