Committee nominations

Posted on October 13, 2021October 13, 2021 by pk

A call for new committee members

As the Annual General Meeting approaches the current committee members will no doubt be asked to carry on their duties into a new year. Recruiting new faces onto the committee has never been easy, some positions have remained unfilled for years. Which is a pity, because there are residents, members or not, who could bring much needed skills and insight to our association.

The positions of Vice Chair and Honorary Secretary remain vacant, and the committee is particularly keen to fill these roles. The committee meets once a month and most positions require little in the way of extra time, maybe some small admin tasks, as well as generally keeping abreast of what’s going on in Kenley.

Our local councillors are regulars at meetings and keep us informed about local issues, which in turn means we can bring up matters of concern with them. This flow of information is vital, especially when the local authority is not always responsive.

Our weekly planning newsletter now covers many other local issues and informs residents of upcoming events. The Kendra Magazine aims to entertain as well as inform, and is popular with many who are not ‘online.’ Contributions are always welcome.

Committee members are also involved in transport, road safety and planning issues which affect our ward and beyond. The committee gave its support to the DEMOC campaign, and along with other residents’ associations, was able to give DEMOC a credible voice by uniting large sections of the borough. The committee will take a close interest in the mayoral candidates and examine how they will represent our residents’ interests.

If you would like to join us as an executive committee member or as a simple serving member, then please contact Christine Heal chairman@kenleyra.org.uk or call 020 8406 4226.
