News - Chairman's Letter, Winter '09
|
from the chairman... 2009 was a successful and eventful year for Kenley. The Kenley Common Funday in July was a resounding success and the Spitfire flypast attracted a large crowd and caused great excitement. As is now customary Mike Street organised a wonderful flypast by a Hurricane, Spitfire and a Lancaster on 16th August and again this drew a goodly crowd of spectators. Kenley received an award from the LBC in the Croydon in Bloom campaign for the flower baskets along Norfolk Parade. KENDRA sponsored the floral decorations and proposes to provide sponsorship again this year. Friends of Foxley also received a Croydon in Bloom award in addition to winning the Eco-Citizen Natural Croydon 2009 trophy. Since the Autumn edition of the newsletter there have been some role changes and resignations from the committee. Due to work and family commitments Roger Sharp has resigned as editor of the newsletter and John Payne has resigned from the committee. Keith Inglis formally stood down as membership secretary at the end of December. I would like to thank Keith, Roger and John for their efforts and hard work on behalf of the Association. As the previous edition of the Newsletter missed out part of April's AGM minutes we have reproduced these as a separate sheet to go with this edition. The Committee expresses its regret that this was not produced in its entirety for the October General Meeting. We would also like to see letters to the Editor as there has been a scarcity of these over the last year. We very much want to hear from Kenley residents about issues which concern them and to get reactions to articles in the Newsletter. We hope over the next year to make it a brighter more interesting circular which addresses the needs of our residents. So if you have any ideas about what you want to see in it let the Editor know. Brian Morris has taken over as newsletter editor as well as continuing as the KENDRA representative on the steering group of the Purley and Kenley Neighbourhood Partnership (PKNP). Consequently, I am again appealing for volunteers for positions on the committee. I have not yet had any response to my plea in the Autumn newsletter for a membership secretary. Included in this edition is a job description of the role which could, if necessary, be done on a job share basis ie someone maintaining membership records and another person liaising with Area and Road Stewards. The membership secretary is a pivotal role in the Association and it will be very difficult to operate successfully without one. If you are at all interested in the role and would like to find out more please contact John Davenport, Keith Inglis or me. I very much hope that in spite of the need to fill roles on the committee, Kenley through KENDRA will have an equally successful 2010. Finally, I should like to wish everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. |
