Environmental Issues:

You can avoid unnecessary dustbin waste going into expensive landfill sites by recycling your paper, cardboard, glass bottles, cans, etc., at one of the following centres:
  • Kenley station car park - cans, clothing, paper and shoes with reduced facilities for bottles & jars.
  • Old Lodge Lane opposite Wattenden School - one small container each for bottles & jars, cans and paper.
  • There are other recycling centres just outside our area; the most important is that at Tesco's which has facilities for bottles, cans, clothing, paper, printer cartridges and shoes.
  • The Purley Oaks civic amenity site in the Brighton Road is open 7 days a week 8.00am to 3:30pm for cars only. The site takes most recyclable items including batteries, bottles, cardboard, clothing, computer equipment, garden waste, hardcore, metal, oil, paper, some plastics, printer cartridges, shoes, tins and reusable wood such as Chritmas trees when in season. There is also one container for non-recyclable home waste.
The council collects household waste weekly. Garden waste is collected bi-weekly in clear plastic bags, maximum two bags per household. Additionally also bi-weekly, cans, glass and plastics are collected in a green crate, and newswspapers and cardboard in a blue crate. Both the clear plastic bags and the crates are provided by the Council free of charge.

The NHS in Croydon:

The NHS in Croydon has a range of different options when you need health care quickly or outside normal working hours. By selecting one of the services here you will usually be seen more quickly and by staff who are better able to look after you.

For critical, life-threatening emergencies - such as suspected heart attack, head injury, heavy blood loss and suspected broken bones - which require immediate medical care, you should always go straight to a hospital accident and emergency (A&E) department. But for non-critical, less serious cases choose one of the options here. If you are unsure whether an illness or injury needs to be dealt with at A&E, call NHS Direct (see below) and ask their advice.

  • Croydon NHS Walk-in Centre - 020 8666 0555 - the centre offers fast and convenient healthcare advice and treatment for minor injuries and illnesses - for example, cuts that need stitching or dressing, sprains and strains, coughs, colds etc. It is open every day of the year except Christmas Day and no appointment is needed.
