We are unable to answer, 'What is the meaning of life' and the old favourite for youngsters, 'Daddy... where do babies come from...?', but the subjects that we can answer, are listed below.

ABANDONED / SCRAPPED CARS
Q.  There is an abandoned car outside my house. Who do I ring or contact?

A. Ring Croydon Council on 020 8726 7100 or visit their website  www.croydon.gov.uk . You may also use text to report a problem - "PARKING" + details to 60660.

BUT

If the tax disc is out of date you should either ring the DVLA on 0800 032 5202 with the following information - exact location of car, make, model, colour and registration number if possible, or report it online at  www.direct.gov.uk .

Q.  My car is "clapped out" and I need to dispose of it.

A. Contact Croydon's nuisance vehicle section on 020 8726 7100.


DOCTORS / DENTISTS
Q.  I am moving into the Kenley area. Who do I contact to find a doctor or dentist?

A. Visit the NHS Croydon website page at  www.southwestlondon.nhs.uk .


DUSTBINS / WHEELED BINS
Q.  Whom should I contact if my dustbin/wheeled bin is not collected on the day and what is the day due?

A. Ring 020 8726 6200 for missed collections or report it online at  www.croydon.gov.uk/missed bins  . To find out when your collections are scheduled see  www.croydon.gov.uk . You may also use text to report a problem - "BIN" + details to 60660.


FLY TIPPING
Q.  There is a load of rubbish dumped around the corner, some tyres, and a Christmas tree. I want it gone.

A. Ring Croydon Council on 020 8726 6200 for fly-tipping on a public highway, 020 8726 6900 for fly-tipping in a park or open space or visit their website  www.croydon.gov.uk . The council will remove any rubbish as soon as possible. In the past the council has examined dumped rubbish with a view to prosecution. If you know who did it, or have a vehicle registration number, please report the fact. You may also use text to report a problem - "ENV" + details to 60660.


FRIDGES / FREEZERS
Q.  I have a fridge/freezer to dispose of - whom do I contact and does it cost anything?

A. Ring Croydon Council on 020 8726 6200 to arrange a collection or visit their website  www.croydon.gov.uk . Croydon Council will collect and dispose for a charge of £20.
Note, the Council will collect up to 4 items per visit, including TV's, computer monitors and other household electrical items. A full list can be found on their website.


GRAFFITI
Q.  I am a private house dweller or small business owner and graffiti has been painted on my wall.
Will Croydon Council remove it? I know who did it!


A. LBC have a promise:
  • We will remove all graffiti that is reported to us within 14 days of the report.
  • If the graffiti is racist, obscene or abusive we will remove it within 24 hours.
  • If the property is a private house or a small business then we will do it free.

LOCAL CROYDON PAPERS
Q.  Are there any local newspapers and do they have websites to access for information?

A. There are three local papers that devote space to local news/events:

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
Q.  If I want to start up or join a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme, whom should I contact?

A. Sarah Gardner, Neighbourhood Watch liaison officer for the police is a good place to start.

NUISANCE PROBLEMS
Q.  I have a problem with noisy neighbours.

A. Ring Croydon Council on 020 8760 5483 or visit their website  www.croydon.gov.uk .
There is a Noisy Party Patrol that operates Saturday nights May to September (020 8726 6000).

Q.  What other problems relating to noise can be dealt with by LBC?

A. Noise from cars and lorries on the highway.....NO.
Vehicle or intruder alarms: phone 020 8726 6000.
Barking dogs: call 020 8760 5483, E-mail:  pollution@croydon.gov.uk .
Generally: all other types of noise call 020 8760 5483 daytime (09:00 - 17:00 Mon to Fri), 020 8726 6000 all other times.


PENSION SERVICE
Q.  Is there any help I can get regarding Pension Credits or Council information regarding pensions?

A. The Pension Service is part of the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP). You may visit their website  here .


PLANNING PROBLEMS
Q.  My neighbour is planning a substantial extension. What happens, whom should I see and what should I do? ......Or

Q.  I want to extend my house and need guidance on how to proceed.

A. Ring Croydon council on 020 8726 6800 or contact their website:  www.croydon.gov.uk .

POOR ROADS
Q.  There are potholes outside my house that are dangerous, drains and/or gullies are blocked:

A. Ring Croydon council on 020 8726 6200 or report it online by completing their  online form .

Q.  Road and Pavement Faults - an alternative:

A. If there are potholes, faulty lights, damaged or missing signs, an alternative to ringing LBC is to contact Transport for London (TfL) by phone on 0845 305 1234 or visit  www.tfl.gov.uk  to report the problem.


STREET LIGHTING
Q.  Street lighting is not functioning correctly. It is on all day but not at night!

A. See the Croydon council website:  www.croydon.gov.uk . You may also use text to report a problem - "ENV" + details to 60660. Please give lamp number and road.


WALKING FOR INTEREST
Q.  I know that both Croydon council and the City of London give conducted walks/tours of common lands and other local places of interest. Where and when do they take place and can anyone go?
